This was the World Scout Jamboree, Simply Scouting!
West Sussex Rampions is one of two units that the UK County of West Sussex took to
the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden during the summer of 2011.
36 young people who are either Scouts or Explorer Scouts, accompanied by four Leaders, had the
adventure of a lifetime.
Why the "Rampions"?
There is a scarce wild flower known as the Round-headed Rampion which grows on the chalk downland
of the South Downs in Sussex. The plant, which is a perrenial, produces deep-blue heads of 15 to 30 flowers that sit
on a circle of leaves atop a stem about 45cm tall.
The flower is the County flower of Sussex and is known colloquially as the "Pride of Sussex".
Where are we based?
All of our young people come from West Sussex and we have representatives from every one of the
eleven Scout Districts within the County. The majority are Explorer Scouts but some were still Scouts when the Jamboree
started in July 2011. All had to be aged between 14 and 17 to come on the trip of a lifetime. Our four leaders also
come from within the County and have differing roles within Scouting, including Cub Leaders and District Explorer Scout Leaders.
